Many complex ceramic parts are made of zirconia ceramics, including automotive ceramics. What are the specific applications of zirconia ceramics?
Nowadays, the speed of cars are much faster than before, and their use environment is becoming more and more demanding. In many cases, parts made of traditional metal materials are no longer suitable for use, and are replaced by ceramics due to its excellent functional and mechanical properties. For example, it can withstand 20G vibration function for a long time;it can be used for burning and exhausting parts for a long time; the reliability of mechanical performance is high, the failure rate is only below 10-5; the special ceramic can be bonded with metal or other materials;can be mass produced and inexpensive,etc.
Automotive industry researchers have demonstrated through years of development, research , experimentation and industrialization that the mechanical properties of ceramic components are much better than metal or other materials.
1. Zirconia ceramic engine
The application of ceramics in cars has been popularized with ceramic piston engines. Such as sub-burning chambers, piston heads, cylinder liners, cylinder heads, and pressurized rotors may be use ceramics in the future. These parts can use silicon nitride boned silicon carbide, or partially stabilized zirconia,etc. For gas turbine engines, the inlet temperature of a gasoline engine is as high as 1350 C to achieve the same fuel cost as that of a diesel engine, and only silicon carbide and silicon nitride ceramics can withstand this high temperature. At present, car and material experts have high expectations for SiC and SiN materials. In the future, these special ceramic materials will be most ideal for car turbine rotor and stator.
2. Zirconia Ceramic Valve Heater
In order to make the starter burn completely when starting, a heating device, also known as valve heater, is equipped on its suction side to promote heating and suction, so as to make the fuel oil and gas mix completely. And in order to control the temperature and improve the reliability of the equipment, PTC (Thermistor) of Barium Titanate Ceramic Series is used as valve heater in suction heating. When the ceramic valve heater is used, the engine will be burned completely once it is started, which will improve the combustion efficiency. Ceramic valve heater is composed of zirconia ceramic parts.
3. Zirconia Ceramic
Sensor Zirconia ceramic sensor has high reliability. As a part of purifying exhaust gas, it is used to measure the concentration of O2 in exhaust gas, and then the measured value is fed back to the engine intake and fuel supply system to keep the engine in the optimal combustion state at any time. This can save energy.
4. Zirconia Ceramic Shock
AbsorberEspecially the shock absorption equipment of high-grade cars has been paid much attention in recent years. For example, smart shock absorbers are developed by using piezoelectric ceramic materials such as positive piezoelectric effect, inverse piezoelectric effect and electroelastic effect. In this way, the vibration caused by rough road surface can be minimized and the driving comfort can be improved. Because of the high sensitivity ceramic components, the sensation and adjustment process of this kind of car shock absorber can be completed in only 20 milliseconds.
5. Zirconia ceramic deflagration sensor
It is hoped that the piston inside the engine can fine-tune the top dead center at any time to promote combustion efficiency. Choosing piezoelectric ceramic
deflagration sensor can resist fatigue and prolong service life under the condition of repeated application. The ceramic deflagration sensor has good performance
and remains stable for thousands of hours.
